Wedding Bells in BelizeWith its sweeping ocean vistas and tropical backdrops, Ambergris Caye is the perfect place for a destination wedding in Belize.

In fact, with just a little bit of planning ahead, you can have a unique wedding experience with all the local offerings that make Ambergris Caye one of the most popular vacation locations in Belize.

Legal Requirements for Marriage

Like a wedding in your home country, to be legally married in Belize takes some preparation to ensure you follow the right requirements for your marriage to be official. Once legal in Belize, your marriage will be recognized internationally.

You must be in Belize for at least three days before applying for a marriage license. You can easily get the papers from the Supreme Court Building in Belize City or the Attorney General's Office in Belmopan.

It will typically take a week for your license to be approved. Be prepared to show your proof of citizenship and a copy of your passport. After all the paperwork is in place, your legal ceremony can be performed.

Finding a Location

When you decide to get married on Ambergris Caye, you'll have many choices regarding beautiful venues for the ceremony. Many hotels and resorts on the island offer wedding packages using the resort as your venue.

Alternatively, you can do it on your own on any one of the beautiful beaches or other locations on the island. If you want a sunset wedding, doing so on land is difficult due to the orientation of the island. However, you can get married on a catamaran on the west side of the island for the perfect sunset backdrop.

Luckily, with water activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling ranked as a main attraction on the island, finding a catamaran for your wedding shouldn't be difficult.

Know the Environment

Ambergris Caye's average temperatures range between 75 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. It's important to take the temperature into account when choosing clothing for your wedding. The rainy season is from May to February.

Rain is especially common during the late afternoon and evening. Ambergris Caye also experiences trade winds off the Caribbean, with greater wind between January and April, so consider this for clothing and hairstyle choices.

Planning Ahead

Most wedding supplies can be found in the city of San Pedro. However, keep in mind that local shops may have varying hours and days of operation and may also require advanced notice when ordering decorations, flowers or other supplies to ensure they have enough stock on hand for your wedding.

San Pedro is full of incredible restaurants and eateries for wedding food options. You can also choose to go through the in-house catering provider of a resort or hotel.

No matter where you choose to have your wedding on the island, Ambergris Caye in Belize provides the perfect romantic backdrop for your special event. With an island of friendly local people to make sure your day is perfect, this island paradise will surely provide a wedding you and your future spouse will never forget.
