The American Crocodile Education Sanctuary, better known to many as ACES, is an incredible organization that rehabilitates wild crocodiles and teaches locals as well as tourists about these fascinating creatures.
Wild Productions Ltd. came to film a segment for Animal Planet about the sanctuary, and the crew were happy to call the Exotic Caye Beach Resort their home away from home while on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize.
American Crocodile Education Sanctuary
Owned and operated by research biologists Cherie Chenot-Rose and Vincent Rose, ACES, or the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary, is more than just one of the most fascinating tourism destinations on Ambergris Caye. The crocodile sanctuary is also a conservation center where local species can be protected in a safe and natural environment.
The staff at ACES have an incredible connection with these local reptiles, and visitors love getting an inside look at the research and conservation that takes place on site. ACES also teaches Ambergris Caye residents about the dangers of feeding crocodiles, which can upset the natural balance of their ecosystem and eating habits.
Wildlife SOS and Filming
The group that did the filming of ACES is called Wildlife Productions, and they were hired by the world-famous Discovery Channel. In particular, the filming was for a show entitled Wildlife SOS that broadcasts on the Discovery Channel's European Animal Planet network. Wildlife SOS is a long-running show presented by Simon Cowell MBE, who also happens to be the founder of The Wildlife Aid Foundation.
The show has been a favorite for 15 years, and it covers all kinds of conservation-based subjects. Of course, the struggles and successes of the American Crocodile Education Sanctuary was the perfect subject matter for the show, and filming revealed the incredible work being done by the biologists at ACES.
